Phillip J. Henry

Henry graduated from the University of Toledo in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and his Juris Doctor in 1999 from the University of Akron.  Mr. Henry has experience in handling all types of litigation in Cuyahoga, Summit, Lorain, and Medina County.  Mr. Henry is experienced in the following types of civil litigation: domestic relations, consumer protection, foreclosure, commercial litigation, personal injury, collections, victims of crime, corporate disputes, industrial injuries, contract disputes.  Mr. Henry is also an experienced criminal defense attorney handling all manner of offenses from misdemeanor to felony.  In addition to representing clients at the trial level, Mr. Henry has assisted clients in pursuing numerous appeals.  Mr. Henry’s has experience in handling civil and criminal appeals in the Eighth and Ninth District Courts of Appeal, as well as the Ohio Supreme Court.  Several of the decisions on Mr. Henry appeals have been published in the Ohio Bar Association Report, and one was featured on the front page of the Ohio Lawyers Weekly. 

 Mr. Henry uses his years of experience in electronic discovery to assist his clients in achieving their desired results in civil, as well as criminal litigations.  Mr. Henry utilizes his knowledge of electronically stored information to carefully craft discovery requests, which provide the information necessary for a forensic expert to clone the opponent’s computers and extract the relevant information from the computer.  This knowledge of electronically stored information, as well as his relations with computer forensic experts allows for a broader scope of discovery than would be obtained through merely requesting the documents.  Mr. Henry was nominated for a 2008 ESI Award.  This award recognizes individuals in Ohio and Pennsylvania, based on their leadership and accomplishment in the area of electronic discovery, and its roll in litigation.  


 In addition to his trial experience, Mr. Henry also provides assistance to entrepreneurs in all aspects of their business.  Mr. Henry works with the individual and the accountant in selecting the proper business entity for their company.  Once this is determined, Mr. Henry prepares the state filings, as well as all of the corporate records for the company, including corporate regulations, bylaws, buy-sell agreements, close corporation agreements, operating agreement, and minutes for shareholder and directors meetings.  Proper preparation of the corporate records assists the owner of the company in achieving limited liability under the Ohio Revised Code.  Mr. Henry also provides these business owners with assistance in the areas of copyright and trademark registration, employment and discrimination laws.  Mr. Henry also provides representation to businesses with collection of delinquent accounts, preparation of Mechanic’s Liens to secure payment, and defense representation in Workers Compensation matters.  Mr. Henry also practices in the area of real estate law, including preparation of purchase agreements, deeds, options, mortgages and notes, and lease agreements.


 Mr. Henry is a member of the Ohio and Medina County Bar Association.  He is also a member of the Ohio Mediation Association and the Mediation Association of Northeast Ohio.  Outside of his practice, Mr. Henry is involved in his community.  Mr. Henry is an active member of St. Adalbert’s Church in Berea, a member of St. Adalbert’s Parish Council, and a member of the Parknoll Elementary School PTA.  Mr. Henry has also been a coach with the Berea Soccer League.
